Eidil Fitri, Merdeka Wishes and the President’s Cup

31 08 2011

Firstly, on behalf of the Central Executive Committee and the Federation, we would like to wish a Selamat Hari Raya Eidil Fitri to all Muslim Baseball players, coaches, managers and fans. Please do forgive us for any wrong-doings, statements that might have offended anyone or parties. For all the non-Muslims, have a great holiday, hope that you all have quality time with your loved ones.

For those of you who has been following our progress diligently, especially in regards to the new Central Executive Committee’s Key Performance Index (KPI), as you’ve witnessed, we are striving very very hard to develop the Baseball sport in Malaysia, not just for the National Team Development, but also at grass-root levels. Many measures and steps has been taken to re-align the overall objectives, targets and missions, towards a greater national baseball agenda, which will ensure continued development and growth of the Baseball sport. These includes penetrating the Universities with the successful Raja Muda Perlis Cup in May 2011, and the MSN-BFA-BFM National Coaching Clinic in June 2011. Other up-coming events are the National Scoring Clinic (scheduled in October 2011) and the MSN-IBAF-BFM National Umpiring & Certification Course (scheduled in December 2011).

We also would like to wish all Malaysians a Happy Merdeka Day. This Merdeka will mark the start of Malaysian Baseball’s glory in achieving international recognition and fame.

The President’s Cup, which was earlier postponed, is now fixed for the 8 – 11 September 2011, scheduled to be held at the Padang Utara, Astaka, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. 6 teams are expected to participate in the National Championship. This tournament would also be the avenue of selection for the National Baseball Team (a.k.a. MBS – Malaysian Baseball Squad). Throughout the Tournament, members from the National Team Selection Committee (Headed by National Sports Institute of Malaysia’s Director General YBhg Datuk Ramlan Abdul Aziz) shall observe and evaluate all player’s performances, upon which a 30-men Roster shall be shortlisted to attend the Phase 1 of the MBS Centralized Training Camp, en route to SEA Games 2011 in Jakarta/Palembang.

Despite Malaysia’s participation in previous SEA Games with Baseball events (2005 Manila and 2007 Korat Thailand), this time round, BFM has taken the correct measures by making the MBS (which was formally formed in 2009 to represent Malaysia in the 8th Asian Baseball Cup in Bangkok, Thailand) as its foundation. Players will undergo a comprehensive technical, fundamental, physiological and psychological training, that would generate highly skilled and trained players, armed with solid attitude, aptitude, values and culture. Spearheaded by a strong and professional Management Team, the MBS is set to climb the IBAF’s Mens World Ranking in the near future.

We thank you for all your support shown thus far, and hope for it to continue for many years to come.

Let’s Play Ball..

Regards

Central Executive Commitee
BASEBALL FEDERATION OF MALAYSIA

Postponement of National Baseball Championship and Managers Meeting

11 07 2011

After much deliberation and consideration, the Central Executive Committee has decided to postponed the National Baseball Championships, which was originally scheduled to be held from the 27 – 30th of July 2011, to an unspecified date in September 2011. Amongst the reasons for such decisions are shortage of time to properly organize such event and the close proximity of the event to the Muslim;s Holy Month of Ramadhan.

The actual dates in September shall be announced once the Central Executive Committee deliberates again on this matter, scheduled before the Ramadhan month. Initially, the National Baseball Championships shall be used as an evaluation grounds to select new potential players for the Malaysian Baseball Squad (MBS). However, a series of friendly games shall be organized by the Federation to serve this purpose, and such games are to be held before the month of Ramadhan.

The CEC Members made in-charge of such friendlies are  Mr. Mohamad Rosli Abu Bakar (Vice President 3), Mr. Nahar Dato’ Johari (Secretary-General) and Mr. Zahari Hj. Baharum (Executive Secretary), and to be closely monitored by the Federation’s National Team Selection Task Force, of which identities of its members are strictly confidential.

Please be advised.

Thanks

Nahar Dato’ Johari
Secretary-General

MSN-BFA-BFM National Baseball Coaching Clinic

6 07 2011

From the 20th – 25th of June 2011 recently, the Federation along side with the Majlis Sukan Negara (National Sports Council of Malaysia) and the Baseball Federation of Asia, organized the National Baseball Coaching Clinic, held at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. A total of 23 participants from various states in Malaysia were selected to under-go the 6-day Coaching Clinic, in the Federation’s initiative of standardizing the format of baseball coaching modules, as well as to identify probable candidates for the National Baseball Coaching Group.

The Clinic, facilitated by Mr. Kim Jung-Soo (selected and sent by the Baseball Federation of Asia) departed an array of valuable information on Baseball Coaching Techniques and Methodologies. Mr. Kim, a former professional baseball player and Coach for the Lotte Giants of Busan , South Korea, and now spearheading the Baseball Coaching Staff of Dong-Eui University of Busan, South Korea, shared with the participants, the primary and secondary fundamental and technical aspects of Baseball from a Coaching perspective.

The Clinic started with a small-key Opening Ceremony, graced by BFM’s President YBhg Dato’ Noh Abdullah and attended by BFM’s Vice President En. Mohamad Rosli Abu Bakar, Secretary-General En. Nahar Dato’ Johari, Treasurer Tuan Haji Mohd. Lazim Hamid and Executive-Secretary En. Zahari Hj. Baharum.

Throughout the Clinic, participants were exposed to theory and practical lessons, ranging from Baseball Rules & Regulations to Sports Safety. As Mr. Kim was not fluent in speaking English, the Federation engaged a Korean Language Expert, Miss Bae Hyo Jin to be the official on-site translator (she was referred to us by the South Korean Embassy and the Korean Society of Malaysia). On day 2, Dato’ Dr. Ramlan Abdul Aziz, the Director-General of National Sports Institute of Malaysia, visited the practical session and observed how the Coaching Clinic was conducted. On the second last day, participants were evaluated with an Examination, comprising of 25 both subjective and objective questions. (Results of the Examination is listed below).

For the Closing Ceremony, YBhg Datuk Zolkples Embong, the Director-General of the National Sports Council of Malaysia, was kind enough to grace the ceremony and handed Completion Certificates to all participants. In his closing speech, Datuk Zolkples mentioned that he himself is a big fan of the New York Yankees (MLB team in the US) and his favourite player is Derek Jeter (plays Shortstop for NY Yankees). He also commended the Federation and the BFA’s efforts of creating a standardized National Baseball Coaching entity, that would oversee the overall development of baseball throughout Malaysia, especially in schools and varsities.

With the success of this Coaching Clinic, BFM intends to hold a Level-2 Coaching Clinic in 2012. This installment would expose participants to a more intermediate level of baseball fundamental and technical coaching. However, participants are limited to those who have successfully completed and passed the Level-1 Coaching Clinic. With this criterium, BFM hopes to establish and create quality line of baseball coaches, ready, willing and able to serve the baseball community as it develops.
